The Nigerian slangs “abi” and “shebi”

“Abi” or “shebi” is a yoruba word that could mean “that’s it”, “yes”, “I agree with u”, “am with u”, “are u with me” etc. Its sha positive. The coolest thing about “Abi” or “shebi” is that, almost every one uses it lOL̃ wen I say almost I mean even igbo’s, hausa’s n not forgetting yoruba’s as well :). Its become a regular “slang” in our daily vocabulary most especially in lagos and yes! Even in our offices lol. It is really cool when u hear someone of another tribe use it compassionately in an argument, a discussion or even in a regular chat.
E.g Abi its the red envelope na.
Shebi u said he’s the  manager.
God is watching abi? Shebi na.
It is so part of us that, it doesn’t sound like a yoruba word anymore lol it sounds more like ONE nigeria plus its sooo contagious :).
I was chatting with one of my girl friends who’s an american n she used “abi” for me on one of our chats lol I had to laugh cus I taught her the word. Since I use it regularly n so well on our chats with time, it made her curious so she had to ask of the meaning :). I explained, and before I could say salisu, she started using it as well o lol cooool abi? :D.
For me sha, I use more of “abi” than “shebi” though  they mean same. I don’t know of the one u prefer, but which ever yöů use, u’ll agree with me that yöů don’t feel wrong about it when ever yöů use it lol abi na.
Leme hear yöu say abi ooooo to one of our most popular slangs in lagos, Nigeria.
